Course Overview

The Foundational Training in Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy is a 2-day, in-person, experiential program designed to introduce psychology students and mental health professionals to the use of expressive arts in trauma-informed therapy.

Rooted in Carmen Richardson’s four-phase trauma model, this training focuses on using creative, non-verbal techniques that are incorporated to support clients safely and ethically through different stages of trauma work.

What Will You Learn?

Participants will learn ready-to-use expressive arts techniques that can be integrated into
therapy sessions across the following four phases:

1. Understanding the Client’s World
2. Cultivating Safety and Resources
3. Trauma Processing
4. Reclaiming, Reframing, Repairing & Reorienting


The training emphasizes hands-on practice, reflection, and guided application to help
participants feel confident using expressive arts tools in clinical settings.
